Review: 2021 BMW 5 Series

“Understated luxury with zip” that is the best way to describe the 2021 BMW 5 series sedan.

The exterior is a orchestra of sharp lines and a aggressive front end stance. Well the rear of the vehicle does seem to lack the aggressiveness of the front, it is still a good looking rear end.

Inside the 5 Series is a prime example of the ability BMW has to pamper their occupants.

As to be expected there rich leather throughout with tasteful black accents along with a wood trim on the dash.

The entertainment system works very well I particularly enjoyed watching the animations when you change settings and how easily the I-Drive system works along with the navigation system.

Speaking of the systems in the vehicle there is multiple drive modes which is pretty common place nowadays with any mid to high priced vehicle. I however I found the BMW’s system to be particularly engaging and responsive.

My particular test vehicle was the BMW 530i finished in a white glacier pearlcoat which gave it a beautiful sparkle in the sunlight.

My tester had the 2.0 liter turbocharged in-line 4 cylinder that BMW has crafted to perfection with 248 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque.

If you want more power you can upgrade to the 540i which would give you a 3.0 liter twin-turbocharged V6 good for 335 hours power and 332 pound-feet of torque.

I will say that I found the in-line turbo 4 cylinder to have plenty of power to overtake and ride comfortably while also seeing a real world 28 MPG with spirited driving and plenty of time on normal and sports modes on mix highway and heavy traffic, which in on par with the 530i EPA estimate of 19 city 31 highway.

The BMW 530i also includes a slew of technology and safety innovations as standard affair such as:

 Live Cockpit with Navigation

Frontal Collision Warning w/ City Collision Mitigation

Lane Departure Warning

Active Blind Spot Detection

Comfort Access keyless entry

Active Driving Assistant.

The BMW 530i is a remarkable car with very little drawbacks. In fact if you want a smooth comfortable vehicle but you have to deal with a bit of seasonal snow, this could still be a winner for you, because as always there is a 530i X-Drive which is the all-wheel drive variant.

It was this car that brought me over to actually liking BMWs and understanding the love that owners have for them, it was an amazing experience, and one of my favorite vehicles I’ve had the privilege of driving.
